The Carolina Hurricanes have already begun contract talks with newly-acquired forward Jordan Staal according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
“We had our initial conversation last night,” said Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford on Tuesday. “Basically it was, ‘We made the trade, we know everybody is happy, now we need to start talking long-term.’ That being agreed on, now the work begins.” Staal has one more year on his current contract, that will earn him $4.5 million in 2012-13, and then is eligible for unrestricted free agency.
